In a world of sword and sorcery, technology and invention have become the cornerstones of the city of Gnowing. Fifteen intertwined stories explore a community filled with gnomes. They possess an insatiable curiosity, a short attention span, a benevolent innocence, but a complete disregard for safety.

Among these tales is a chaotic court room, a doctor that may do more harm than good, and the Inconvenience Store where finding what you want is a miracle. Behold the creation of the first ever newspaper, a peculiar concept called a holiday, the original fast food restaurant, and a steam powered time machine.

Music often inspires scenes, helps mold the tone of a narrative, and in some cases, defines a character.

What follows is a collection of songs that are the soundtrack to this novel.

This song inspired a "deleted" scenario that does not occur in the novel but would be ideal visually for a movie or television series based off the book. This will add to the experience for the visual representation of the book. Learn more about this new addition below under the "Bonus Scene" section of this page.

The music for Knowing Gnowing is upbeat, silly sounding, and creates a positive, energetic tone. The general theme of the book is the optimistic, cheerful, and happy attitude all gnomes have. It is incredibly rare that you find a gnome that is pessimistic. This reflects this joyful excitement they feel.

Energetic, upbeat, a feeling of joyfully embracing everything that life has to offer. That is what the ongoing theme of all the music throughout the city of Gnowing. There is a slower part when someone sings that creates that voice tone that I expect gnomes to possess. It has a light, silly charm as does the city itself.

The tone of the song is light, fun, energetic, and silly. That is everything that is the city of Gnowing and its inhabitants. The novel is a comedy with characters that are either trying to understand gnomish culture, or gnomes who are symbolized by the joyful playfulness of this song. An ideal theme for Gnowing.

Bonus Scene: Not Found In Book

In a movie/television presentation of Knowing Gnowing, there is an elaborate, incredibly detailed opening scene set to the song "Monody" as mentioned earlier in the page. It will take extensive choreography and camera work to pan slowly through this city, introducing the audience to this chaotic realm of mostly gnomes. At one point someone shoots across the screen having been shot out of a canon. It will be similar to a Dr. Seuss community, with so much bizarre stuff going on all at once. When the woman sings, it's the elf from the acting troupe story on stage. After she stops, part of the set collapses behind her. It's a wonderfully chaotic, but delightfully fun introduction to Gnowing.

Hidden Author

Where would the Author make a cameo?

Stan Lee is notorious for making a cameo in movies and television series based off his written works. With that in mind, where would the author of this novel make an appearance in a visual adaptation of the book?

At the beginning of the book, a mercenary is looking for someone which sparks a city wide search for "the guy". At one point during a play, the mercenary finds the man he is looking for but the gnomes are unaware that particular "guy" has already been found. So, the search continues. At the end of the anthology, a gathering of every gnome in the city finally find "the guy". The guy is, of course, the author. He is given a rare opportunity to have a speaking part in a book.
